A guide to our design process
We appreciate that redesigning your garden is a big decision and some clients just want to speak to a professional before taking the leap into a design consultation. So, if you need a quick chat beforehand, please contact us.
Whether it's a small change to your garden or a complete redesign, this is the best place to start.
We visit you on site so we can fully understand your design brief, how you want to use the garden and how it will fit with your lifestyle.
Whenever possible, we encourage everyone who will use the garden to participate in this consultation meeting. It’s crucial to listen to everyone who will use and benefit from the garden design we create.
This is when we’ll review garden styles to identify what appeals to you, as well as consider budgets and the practical aspects of what’s achievable over a certain time scale.
Following the consultation, we summarise the information in a formal proposal along with a breakdown of design fees for your approval.
When we have received your approval to proceed, we will conduct a detailed site analysis, enlisting the services of a surveyor if necessary. This allows us to:
- Examine and test the soil
- Look at boundaries
- Check the conditions on site
- Plot the sun's movement
- Thoroughly assess the health of existing trees, shrubs and garden features.
In addition, we use photos and videos of the site to create a comprehensive Site Analysis document, complete with recommendations and suggestions for each area of the garden.
With the information gathered, we come back to you to present our initial concept ideas, including the garden’s layout, shape, and overall ‘feel’.
These concepts are illustrated through sketches, drawings, mood boards, and elevations, and form the basis of further discussions.
This is your first opportunity to visualise the potential garden design and provide valuable feedback, enabling us to refine the final designs and create detailed drawings.
We’ll also provide a broad cost estimate, helping you to decide whether to complete the project all at once or in phases over time.
This is where the magic happens!.
We transform the concept ideas into practical garden designs, carefully crafting each element to align with your vision, site, and budget.
Our presentation will include:
- A 2D Concept Plan
- 3D sketches of key viewpoints
- 3D full colour renderings or models
- Presentation Plan – detailing materials, features, planting spaces
Working closely with you, we can fine-tune any aspects for revision, ready for your approval and final sign off.
Plants are the heart and soul of any garden. One of the specialities of My Garden Designer is placing the right plants in the right spots, to ensure they thrive.
Our planting plans help you to visualise the garden throughout the year, showing how the structure evolves with the seasons. We provide detailed layouts with exact spacings, and total quantities needed for your project.
Alongside the planting plan, you’ll receive a horticultural maintenance plan. This is a guide for when to perform various maintenance tasks when your garden has been completed.
Clients can choose to purchase the plants and plant them themselves, according to the plans.
Alternatively, we can obtain trade discounts for supplying the plants and our team can plant the garden for you.
Option 1: Many people prefer to use their own trusted landscaper to bring their new garden design to life, either now or later.
Option 2: Alternatively, we tender the project to three landscaping companies who will quote for the construction and project management of the build from start to finish. We’ll coordinate with them on all design aspects. You will make the final decision on who to appoint.
